India Shines Bright at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship

Gaurav Arutla, Grade 11

India made history at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship as it impressed with an all-out effort that further testified Indian supremacy in athletics. Placing themselves among the world-elite, Indian athletes set new standards in the track and field, bringing the country the best medal-count in its history at the championship.

The best event of the Gala was when India emerged successful in sprint races. The women 100m and 200m finalists also won medals and it is arguably a big step towards an event being in the grip of other Asian giants. In the men relay, US 4x400m coming off its success in the men relay 400m that featured Taariq Lewis and Victor Brim also did not disappoint as it successfully timed the run and clinched the gold as it won.

India also asserted its superiority in the fields events. Javelin throws, which has always been a strong point of India could not be left behind as the spear throwers of this great nation left their opponents behind. Some great performances in discus and shot put contributed to the count and a long jumper scored a personal best as well as a medal as one of the stars of the championship in the making.

What was quite amazing about this edition though was that India really was consistent in all the categories. This year the success was not concentrated in the hands of a few star acts, but among the old and new players. This halved result was explained by the coaches as having a balanced result due to systematic planning, the top-class training facilities and exposure tours that to an extent helped athletes to train under international conditions.

The overall medal tally put India in the category of the top three nations and this has been a long awaited change in the making. The 2025 performance not only cooled the critics but also posed new hope to the future international games and to the path of the Olympics 2028.

India performing well in this championship signified more than just a sporting achievement of a nation which is increasingly developing its sporting culture other than the cricket. To the millions of young sportsmen at home, these two wins prove to be an inspiring masterpiece and a demonstration that Indian athletics has made a grand entry into the Asian scene.
